The Edinburgh Fringe
The Edinburgh Fringe, which is the largest and most international theatre festival in the world, is in full swing here in Auld Reekie. The normal population has literally tripled in size, and most of the tourists spend their days on MY street of residence. It's a little scary to step outside. Bretton and I have even developed a new sport: tourist dodging. It requires great skill...not for amateurs/nice people. I must be in so many random family photos by now. So, as you can see, it has been obnoxiously difficult to take blog pictures, since I'm a bit shy about it to begin with. I'll have to find a secret spot, or maybe even take a trip to the shore.
These small complaints are truly the only downside to the festival though, I must say. I've seen about two plays a day (each one better than its predecessor), everything is open super late, and the night life is to die for. More pictures of it to come....I'll have to shell out some change and get a few good ones of the street performers. Their costumes are mind-blowing!

We are Stardust. We are Golden.
To add to what proved to be an absolutely flawless day, I found this little sundress for 10 quid and am kind of obsessed with it. It's comfortable, breathes, fits perfectly, and is a flower print I can actually get behind (I'm picky). I also found some stellar new nail polish/varnish (silly vernacular differences) for a 3 for 2 deal. Couldn't decide which color to wear first: the fluorescent yellow or the sparkletastic red, so I went for both. It's almost scary how well they match my dress too...OCD face.
Dress: I have no idea...I forgot to look at the name of the store. FAIL; Nail Polish: Boots; Earrings: San Lorenzo market, Florence

"Edinburgh is what Paris ought to be"
For some reason most of my outfit is from Urban Outfitters today. This is odd, as I don't own terribly many pieces from them given their tendency to be overpriced. I try to only buy things that are A.) on sale, B.) unique to the store, and C.) can be worn with almost anything. The sandals are my most recent purchase from Urban, and I'm quite happy with them. They fit great, will match everything, and can even be paired with tights if the weather should get chilly again.

Volcanic Ash and Bashful Sun
I'm back! After a couple weeks of blogging hiatus (which I blame entirely on the much anticipated presence of my mother in the Burgh) I have returned with a slightly mediocre, yet fairly pleasant post. Today Bretton and I, amid the subtle flurries of ash from Iceland's obnoxious volcano, had a leisurely lunch at our favourite haunt: The Last Drop pub. It's name, as would be expected, was derived from the hundreds of public hangings and torture ceremonies held outside it's doors during one of the better sections of Edinburgh's history. Fun times.
The brooch I'm wearing was a gift from my overly generous mother during her trip. I'm in love. It seems to go with everything. And I can't express how happy I am at the prospect of finally being able to wear sandals. It truly is a beautiful, albeit slightly pyroclastic, day.

A Snow White Welcoming
Bretton was kind enough to take all of these for me when he went out for groceries (and I couldn't move from my bed). Jet lag really is horrendous. I did take the last one however (from my window), so at least I contributed to this post in some way.
Please note that snow is quite rare in Edinburgh...I've heard from a few natives that they haven't seen any for twenty years. It's a shame, because the city wears it so well.
Sorry for the delay in posting by the way. Seeing as neither of us have received our luggage yet (rrrrrr) it has been rather difficult to put together respectable ensembles. Fortunately, Urban Outfitters had a huge sale today and I got a very cute clubbing dress which I will have pictures of later tonight.
Now to make some breaded lemon/spinach chicken with brown rice for a special dinner....
