My lovely boyfriend was gracious enough to not only bestow me with this beautiful navy Modcloth dress, but to take the photos above.

Lately 40s vintage has been my particular focus in terms of hair and makeup. Vibrant red lipstick, curled hair tips, and delicate use of bobby-pins help to achieve the feel. An obsession with Humphrey Bogart/John Huston movies doesn't hurt.

Christmas in Connecticut

Excluding bizarre extended family drama, which only consumed about two hours of the festivities, Christmas was basically perfect this year. The house looks better than ever, and will probably remain in this state until late February. My parents are sincerely committed to Christmas.

I think I missed all my pets the most. Despite the fact that most are slightly troubled rescue animals, we have been very lucky with them.

Vacuous Soldier of the Thrift Store Gestapo

The new modcloth dress fits perfectly. It is a little strange, but feels quite original. And I missed my gold t-straps...they will definitely be coming to Scotland. My baby Geno at the top is being a very good boy of late. Much more affectionate. Rescue dogs are a lot of work, but worth it in every way. I've made the house more Christmas-y than it's ever been this year. Three real trees. It's magical. Being home in general is magical. I feel so comforted.

Home.

Being home, even if it's only been for a day, has been spa treatment for the soul. I've eaten, slept, and drank so well, not to mention quality time with my rents has been an absolute blast. Yesterday I cleaned the whole upstairs of our house....like all the corners and tables in my parents room...and for it my mother bought me the "Out With the Old and In With the Blue" dress from modcloth, even though I insisted she really didn't have to. Regardless, I'm ecstatic.
