The Molly Dress

My 'Molly Rosewald Dress' finally made its way to me from the States after several months of semi-patient waiting. As soon as I saw this baby on Modcloth I knew I had to own it, if for no other reason than it shared my name. Fabric buttons (which are just my absolute favourite), flower print, and the brilliant salmon shade of the skirt solidified the purchase. I'm so happy it fits after all this time. I also got the little octopus ring with it...so adorable...brings me right back to my pirate obsession days. A Christmas gift certificate well spent.

A Crop of Floral Swatches

Swatch:
1. A sample strip cut from a piece of material.
2. A representative portion; a sample

Here's a new experiment I'm gonna try on the blog. I always enjoy discovering potential unexpected pairings of items in my closet and 'swatching,' a term used often in costuming, might be an interesting method of uncovering new ensembles. Plus, I like seeing the different textures of the fabric together. It's oddly satisfying.

In the future I'd like to try collecting images of textures beyond fabrics (stones, wood, metal) and pair them together in a kind of 'fantasy' outfit. We'll see how it works out.

Mended Vintage

I recently purchased this orange and brown 'Miss Lewis' (a popular 60s brand) waist skirt and, through some creative button mending, managed to return it to it's former glory. I fell in love with the quirky herring bone-esq pattern of the wool and simply couldn't part with it. A 10 percent student discount sealed the deal. Why does vintage shopping always feel a bit like buying a rescue animal?

Dances with the Daffodils

I wander'd lonely as as a cloud

That floats on high o'er vales and hills,

When all at once I saw a crowd,

A host of golden daffodils,

Beside the lake, beneath the trees,

Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

-William Wordsworth

Special thanks to Bretton for not only taking such stunning and surreal pictures today, but for editing the hell out of my blog format. Much improved, don't you think? The boy has a way with html codes. Ahh, the key to my heart.

I do believe this may be my favourite post yet. It's hard to believe this place exists sometimes. Although, *sniffle sniffle*, this little picture picnic was probably not the best cure for my allergies. Worth it.
